About

Jack Colbert - (b. 2001, Plymouth, MA) is an animator and multimedia artist based out of Massachusetts. Colbert utilizes replacement, stop motion, and 2D digital animation in his experimental films, which are amplified by his material and rhythmic sound design. His films portray themes of nature vs technology, electronic waste, and nonverbal communication.

Colbert’s most recent work, The Golden Age, animates pocket sized metallic objects sourced from metal detecting—from pull tabs to gold rings. The object’s unique eroded surfaces overlap through replacement animation, and the cyclical rhythm of the film mimics the normalization of discarding and replacing belongings. The Golden Age is made in collaboration with experimental sound duo, Matmos, utilizing their single, The Rust Belt, from the 2025 album, Metallic Life Review.  Jack Colbert has screened at Midway Artist Studios, Squealing Pegs, and MassArt’s 2024/2025 All School Show where he received multiple awards for Animation Department Best in Show.
